2023 Eat Local CSASince 2021 we've offered a local meal CSA! Do you often find yourself excited about cooking with local, fresh ingredients but can’t always find the time, energy, or inspiration to track everything down and then sweat in the kitchen? Our Eat Local CSA share is a great opportunity to explore what can be made with farm fresh ingredients! Every month (June-September) you’ll pick up a take-out meal prepared by chef Barb Westman at Fairhaven Farm. Bring dinner home or enjoy it on the farm at one of our tables.
This prepared meal is a delicious way to experience the bounty of the seasons while supporting local food production. Dinner ingredients will vary depending on what is locally available and at its peak of flavor and quality. Meals will generally include a small meat portion, a side, homemade bread, and a dessert. Dinners can be made vegetarian by request. *meals may contain eggs, dairy, soy, nut, and wheat products |
How is this different than your other farm dinners?
Glad you asked! Several elements separate this culinary adventure from our regular farm dinners including a CSA model, take-out packaging, BYO dining style, and highlighting local food from on and off the farm.
- CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, a farm model that forms a partnership between community members and farmers - members make an investment in the lean months when output costs are high and income is low, by paying up front for a seasonal service. We have chosen to adopt this model for our local take-out farm dinners to reduce overhead costs and empower our chef the flexibility to take full advantage of seasonal ingredients.
- Take-out. Eat Local meals are packaged so CSA members can take them where they want them. Either take meals home with you, to the cabin, or enjoy them BYO style on the farm.
- Bring Your Own. If you choose to eat your meal on the farm we provide the food, table and chairs and you bring everything else! Cutlery, beverages, plates, blankets to sit on...This style allows us to reduce overhead costs so that we can offer you affordable, local sourced meals.
- Local. This dinner series takes advantage of our area's rich agricultural resources and highlights our local producers! It's a fantastic opportunity to explore what's available to eat all around us. Each meal will come with a breakdown of where ingredients came from and how you may find them for yourself.
Okay, I'm sold! What are the details?
Wonderful, we're so excited to work with you!
- Cost: $128 per person for the season. That's 4 meals at $32 each! This year we’ll have a total of 6 reduced cost shares at $80 for the season. To apply fill the form out here. We’ll select the recipients by June 1st.
- Schedule: meals available for pick-up on the third Friday of every month June-September. Menu: Each meal will feature a main dish, salad, homemade bread, and a dessert. Here is the menu for our first meal: homemade pork sausage with nettles and dandelion, rhubarb chutney, spring greens with roasted garlic dressing, sourdough bread, and chocolate mint dessert.
- Spaces: There are 50 Eat Local CSA shares available, and we will accept members until all shares are full. If you sign up mid season, you will only pay for upcoming meals.
- Vacation: If you're expecting to be away during one of the pick-ups, there are two options. You may have a friend pick up your meal on your behalf, or you can email us 24 hours before the pick-up and we will be sure to leave the meal in our cooler for you to pick up the day after.
